I voted for you! Actually most of the usual suspects like Brit Green, Large Collidable, Akirei, Sarah Schneider, and Riot Girl make the list. Celebrities like Vile Rat, Seleene, Chribba and Mittani and most of CCP seem to fill out the list. Great list! Nova you have one of the best Intaki that I have seen! I know that the current system doesn't allow bloodline sorting (or even gender) but I would like to see how you stack compared to other Intaki since the list is so full of Achura!

I can confirm this too, refresh/reload does not help.
In my case, one portrait appeared twice in a row and then it was stuck on that pair.

one thing i'm not sure about is allowing you to see the wins/losses on mouse-over? this only serves to bias the selection process i think. i know for myself, if i can't make a quick decision, i will give it to the one with least wins..

What are the criteria for appearing in the Top 100? Seems to be a minimum number of total votes. How many, and are there any other limitations?

It would be nice if you could categorize it into both men and women. Having an all time favorites gets boring over time, so in addition to that, it would be awesome to have a more dynamically updating system similar to 500px.com (it's a photo sharing site) where we could see new faces everyday based on short term popularity trends. Unfortunately I have no idea how 500px.com's popularity algorithm works so you'll probably have to create your own.

The site really needs more characters entered.

It's too bad. A lot of people have put a lot of time into these sites only to have them gamed by the very people they took the time to make them for.

Yeah, this is a pretty big problem. Right now it just looks like the site is being used so that people can upvote their high-sec dolls. There are NO male characters in the top 100, which is pretty ridiculous.

So in other words if I add a character now, he/she will never catch up...unless you do a reset. It's a bit unfair, don't you think.
If you use the winning percentage as factor, yes a character with 2 votes and 100% will be on top, but surely not for long as the number of votes increase, at least it would mix up the rankings a bit more.

that's not how I meant it at all. just that the site is, for all the fun it can be or has been before, it's just that. a site. it really doesn't mean anything who is the "winner" or highly ranked.

I agree. The busiest I have been in NEF was back during that "previous matches" era when she was the top Ni-Kunni. Great looking character. I feel as though that was my favorite list, and I think Celeste tended to drift just around that top14 cut off through most of it. I still stand by my "locked opponents" theory, since a few of my favorite characters (mine and other peoples) have not made it to the top 100. There are also some matches like Ugly Douchebag and Rok Tar who are locked together, ensuring that they both stay around 50% despite both being hideous. I usually hate bagging on other avatars, but it is clear both were designed to be very ugly.

I think we have seen some major ethnic leanings with each iteration. I remember a time when CCP Soundwave, Private Panikan, Kin Ha, Sajuuk Brutor, Seam Daigon, Militant Barbie and a bunch of other darker avatars (back when I voted a bunch) filled the top 14. I think there was also a major Sebiestor and Achura bias at one point. Looks a bit Euro for the top 14 at the moment. Not quite sure what to make of this, but it is something I noticed.

Oh, and yes December is my newest character and considering the resemblance despite being an Intaki decided to use the Taylor (half sister?) name. I think my Civire, Luna (who doesn't get much use) might look a bit more like Celeste and is the second of the Taylor half sisters. I love how the character generator does not restrict your appearance to your bloodline.

Is it just me or did the amount of misgendered portraits suddenly increase?

IMy favorite is still the one 3 resets ago (last being the character lock, and the one before being ruined by the voting spam, so the one before that with the previous victories listing) even though I didn't have a character in the top 10 for most of the run.

I wonder how many peeps have been ganked whilst furiously clicking on this site and not paying heed to local or their surroundings?

I bet it's quite a lot.

Edit: How about that feature where you can nominate people as twins? Apologies if this has been suggested before. In previous such sites, I enjoyed when you could start a competition between two characters based on one personality characteristic e.g. trustworthy, slimy, cute.

Houm... one of my girls has got 16 wins to 3 losses, 84.2 % win ratio, but doesn't shows at the list, despite boith the general list and the girls list shows characters with 80%, 16 vs 4 and lower ratios.

Thanks again for this ridiculously addictive website. I just wanted to share some issues I am having out of courtesy.

Arduemont here has 18 wins and 6 losses, which should place him above 95th on the top male 100, but he's not showing up there. Also, the page times out (with 'Proxy Error') when I try to load any race specific (as opposed to bloodline specific) male leaderboard.

It's surprising that more of them aren't near the top. Like Kara Jordan or Brit Green for example.

Thanks Nova. I notice our avatars tend to climb and descend on these charts together. There are a few others like Riot Girl, Eternal Sophia and Private Panacan who seem to travel up and down with us. Part of the issue is that people like us don't vote against avatars just to keep them from the top. So over the last week there are a bunch of great looking avatars above us (who I don't have the heart to vote against) who have until yesterday had perfect scores. As of I believe yesterday I have started to see some votes against the top circle though, so I believe either a bitter voter just noticed that the counter was reset or someone wants to pull ahead from all those near perfect scores or fell off that top ranks due to normal voting. For the most part though I think that most of us who are not on the top 100 but have not voted against the top over the past week are part of the nice people group and eventually will make it to the ranks again. I do agree that the top 100 is starting to shape well though since most of the avatars that I vote for are there, despite a number of absent ones due to negative voting.

It is weird how fast the males are dropping though. I still believe it has to do with the fact that it is harder to agree with what makes a good looking male avatar. For example I will occasionally vote for one with a facial tattoo (rarely do this for female avatars) but it does look like the community dislikes facial tattoosl, so in effect voting for them will lower the overall top scores for male avatars. It is also easier for me to choose an amazing or hideous female avatar, while often I am at a loss when deciding which male looks better.

edit: I love the statistics page. I would think that the "Leading Race" should be leading bloodline, especially if this is an easy change or addition. The three bloodlines for each race have so little (physically) in common and the groupings feel rather arbitrary for the site. It is also funny to see the most recently added list since most of them are terrifying with a few great looking ones. Why do people add avatars that don't have a associated image to them?

edit: of course it wouldn't be a big stretch to think that someone actually doesn't like our avatars and prefer girls with huge assets or radical hairstyles and piecing. It just seems weird that there are some avatars who are somewhat similar in qualities who do not have many negative votes which makes it feel a bit more personal.

I don't know if you're taking suggestions/requests, but I would come back to the site a lot more often if we could see who a given character has 'beaten' and - more importantly - been 'beaten' by in individual pairings.

I find myself losing interest in the site because I look at some of the high performers and, even attempting to compensate for obvious bias, cannot reconcile that they should outperform my (or many other) characters.

Were one able to peruse match results, evidence of either A; honest superiority in pairings received, or B; obvious vote fixing, would become apparent. I'd be very interested in either or both, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

This also seems like it would have beneficial effects as far as data collection for your project is concerned: What if 'certain people' are only being paired against uggos, or the same folks over and over? Such a feature would reveal this tendency. Alternatively, it would provide closure for bitter people like myself - who are unable to cope with their lousy score - when we realize we're losing to Large Collidable Object instead of, you know, attractive avatars.

- i only see the first 16 characters without scrolling (1950 x 1050 screen)
- the 30 new characters are added to the bottom of the previous 30, so the page displays 30/60/90/120 characters... that could rapidly go out of control and make scrolling even worst

Maybe could use a 6 x 4 matrix (24 chars), don't make it vertical scroll, and substitute with different characters rather than add them to the already being shown?

Is it possible to sort the avatars by date added starting with most recent ones?

I'd however point out that the pure random occurrences on the pairings a bit weird, after "pushing the buttons" for a few hundred times, I found that one of the random nature of the pairings is imho, a concern. Even when you have a really high traffic on that site, it's virtually impossible to reach a "proper" 'top X' faces/avatars using this algorithm.

When I first looked at the top 12 for instance, I find it weird (no offense to the avatar creators though) that some of the best avatars around like Ariel Dawn, Alice Saki, Fazmarai weren't even there. A lot of those avatars that has beaten them in terms of votes count honestly made no sense to me.

Please correct me if I'm wrong though, but I believe that matching people with high ratings with bad avatars would surmount to nothing. A moderately good avatar might have more votes than some really good ones just because they occur more often and might have been paired with mostly oogly avatars.

Another big issue with pure random matching is that the bigger the list are, the more the top ladder becomes a lucky ladder instead of who's the best of them all. You may also want to address the rank evaluation algorithm to solve this issue, because I honestly don't believe that anyone would ever vote/click 3k times on the site so that everyone's covered.

I also don't think there won't be much of an issue when 'good' avatars are paired only with good ones, if someone likes A better than B, then so be it, if both are equally good, someone might pick B over A for the next time. You can even put some entropy counter mechanics to the random pairing to prevent a good avatar from getting a losing streak and for multiple occurrences of the same avatar which resulting in more votes/downvotes for that particular avatar.

This should allow the top 12 to actually be a top 12 'best faces' rather than just the luckiest 12.

Maybe Nova should reserve the top spots for those characters and exclude them from the voting, but maybe it is only your opinion that they belong in the top 12 and not everybody's.

One improvement would be to remove the character names on the voting pairs as I think some voters might be biased by name and/or reputation.
